Privacy and Internet Cafe

We all use internet cafe and public computers for surfing. But these are the places for identity theft privacy leaking etc.Actually we are not bothered about privacy and identity theft until we suffer from it.These are some tips to secure your privacy in internet cafes

I assume most internet cafes are using Windows,Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox.

Potential problems:
1. password theft
2. access to web history
3. access to private data

Solutions:
1. NEVER EVER EVER click "remember me on this computer" or "remember password" check boxes while using Instant message clients like google talk, yahoo messenger or web services like webmails. If you don't do this, the person who uses that computer after you can have illegal access to your accounts.

2. Dont save your files in cafe computer. If you have to save then permanently delete (ie shift+delete) it from hard disc after use.Althogh others can retrieve deleted files using recovery softwares. If this is the case then permanent erasing softwares like this one http://www.heidi.ie/eraser/ are highly recommended.

3. Clean up browser:Browsers normally save temporary internet files which includes cached web pages,
cookies(?), history etc.
If u didnt clean browser, others ca access your web viewing history,
things entered in forms and even access to not-logouted accounts.

To clean Internet Explorer, click tools >> Internet options.
You will get the following dialog box.then click "delete cookies", "delete files">> delete all offline content, "clear history".I recommend keeping Days to Keep in History to "0" instead of default "20".

To clean Mozilla Firefox, it is pretty easy to do above steps.
goto tools >> clear private data (Ctrl+Shift+Delete) check all boxes and click ok.

4. Spywares and adwares etc may be there in computer. These programs may steal private data for third parties.
So make sure that you are using a computer in internet cafes with a well known antivirus program.

Happy surfing!! sorry Happy after surfing!! :-)
