Standby v/s Hibernate

We normally put our PCs on Standby (Ref OS:Windows XP) for power saving. But the problem with Standby is that if any key in keyboard, mouse, mouse buttons are shaked or pressed then PC will come out from Standby. My PC came out from Standby even when CPU got a little move!:-)
This is a problem if we really want to save energy because if we are not there near PC when it is Standby and if it came out from Standby mistakenly (because of kids, position etc) energy will be wasted. There is another option called Hibernation is available with windows. In this power saving mode PC will be shut downed but if we came out from it previous state of  OS will be reassigned. We have to press power button to come out from hibernation and not like clicking-in-keyboard-shaking-mouse thing!Hibernation is a bold Standby!

To enable hibernation:
Go to control panel, open power options, Click on Hibernate tab, then check Enable hibernation box.
You can hibernate PC after some predefined minutes by specifying it in  System hibernates option available in Power schemes tab in that previously opened Power options. But manual hibernation is highly recommended as it is more useful.
To do this, click on the Advanced tab and select Hibernate from When I press the power button on my computer.
Click ok.

Note:To prevent unauthorized access make sure that Prompt for password when computer resumes from standby box is checked. This applies to Hibernation also

Now if you click power button on your CPU,computer will be hibernated

Pros and cons:
* Hibernation is safer than Standby
* Hibernation needs a (temporary) hard disc space of 479MB-in XP
* Hibernation slower than Standby (only 2 or 3 seconds yaar!)
* If we set Hibernation to power button then we cannot Turn off computer manually by pressing it.Instead go through start menu or by clicking Task manager (Ctrl+Alt+delete)
